Are you looking for a city neighborhood that makes owning a pet easy and enjoyable? Consider Brewerytown. I don't know the official borders of Brewerytown, but basically I'm referring to the section of Philadelphia that is sandwiched between 26th and 31st Streets and Poplar and Master Streets. Why do I consider it pet friendly? Let me list a few reasons for you below: 1) Lots of open spaces. Fairmount Park butts up against Brewerytown on several fronts. The nearby Rhododendron Park, Kelly Drive, Lemon Hill, and the recreational areas along North 33rd Street (encroaching into Strawberry Mansion territory), all provide ample space to walk or run your dog. The Girard Avenue sidewalks are extra wide, perfect for accommodating you and your dog, plus leaving enough space for other pedestrians. This is a perfect way to get out and see the neighborhood, exercise yourself and your dog, get to know the local businesses and personalities in the neighborhood, as well as see and be seen. Don't forget the poop bags! 2) Pet friendly rental properties. There are several developer/landlords in Brewerytown whose rental policies are very pet friendly. They include Mario Presta at 2712 West Girard Avenue and MM Partners, LLC at 2732 West Girard Avenue . Both Mario Presta and MM Partners, LLC own and manage numerous rental properties in Brewerytown, most of which allow dogs and cats. 3) Abundance of pet businesses and services. There are many businesses, in and around Brewerytown, that cater to pets. Of course, there's my shop, Best In Show Grooming Salon, that offers grooming services for dogs and cats. We also offer a very limited retail selection (cat litter, pee wee pads, collars/leashes, raincoats, brushes, carriers, nail clippers, etc.). For a more robust pet retail experience, visit Courtney in her Fairmount Pet Shoppe at 2024 Fairmount Avenue . Down the street from us, at 2806 West Girard Avenue is the wonderful staff of the Girard Veterinary Clinic. And, if you need a dog walker or pet sitter, call Priscilla Molina of A Walk In The Park at 215 206-5003. Brewerytown is a great "up and coming" neighborhood. It's surrounded by Fairmount Park, literally blocks from the Art Museum, down the street from the Zoo, with easy access to 76 east/west, sits atop fantastic Fairmount, is home of the world-famous North Star Bar, and is slowly filling up with new, dynamic businesses and hip, cool people. Come check it out. |
